I am a dental specialist in Oral Surgery with 40 years’ experience in complex oral surgery cases. I led an Orofacial Pain Multidisciplinary clinic for 20 years working with Headache Neurologists, Neurosurgeons, Psychiatrists, Clinical Psychologists, ENT and all aspects of different dental specialties in assessing and managing patients.

I trained in dentistry, then undertook a oral and maxillofacial surgical programme in Melbourne followed by undertaking a part time PhD in Neuroscience focussing on nerve injuries after dental surgical interventions. This work launched me into a career of seeing patients with complex pain conditions and nerve injuries.

Also, because of this work, my interest in patient safety escalated and resulted in developing clinical guidance and strategies to maximise patient safety in dentistry. Several aspects of dental work were modified as a result, third molar surgery, local anaesthetic, implant surgery, endodontics and dental extractions.
